Sunday brought warm, sunny skies and we were hopeful that Karen would have a good pass. Unfortunately, we had more gremlins on the starting line and the bike stalled again. Not a great outing, we we think we addressed the issues and we're ready for the next race. I did ok in the ET class. I had some pretty good qualifying runs and felt pretty comfortable on the bike. My reaction times were'nt great, but overall I was happy. I won my first elimination round Sunday morning. I had an excellent .005 reaction time and won fairly easily. My reaction time bit me in round 2 though, when I went red with a -.076. I need to get more practice on the full tree to get more consistent. As always, thanks for your support. As I said earlier, I think we have ironed out the gremlins in the Pro Gas bike and we are looking forward to the Dallas race. 04/12/08: The 2008 season is already underway. Karen and I competed in the AHDRA Arizona Bike Week Nationals near Phoenix. Karen is competing in the Pro Gas class and I am competing in the ET class. We rebuilt the PG motor over the off season and added a small shot of nitrous. We got the motor back just in time to make this event and we had a few issues. Not expected since we had no test time on the new setup. First round of qualifying Karen ran 8.152. That's a real good pass on all motor. In fact all passes this weekend were all motor - the nitrous failed to activate all weekend. In qualifying round 2, the clutch perch broke in the waterbox so we had to shut it off. In qualifying round 3, the bike died on the starting line. We got back to the pits and restarted the bike to assess the issue and had a little fire! Turned out that the fuse block came loose and was shorting to the battery. It was a simple fix, but we only had the one qualifying run. The 8.15 in round 1 was good enough to qualify 3rd in a field of 7. In eliminations, Karen won round 1 with a 8.34. Round 2 she faced a real tough competitor. She had a great holeshot, but that would not be enough to win the round. She ran an 8.41 to his 7.35. I did ok in the ET class. Considering that I had no practice since last year, I think I did pretty well. In qualifying I ran a 10.35, 10.32 and 10.31. That was pretty consistent and I was very happy with the passes. My reaction times weren't great, but I felt more comfortable each round. I was lucky to win my first 2 rounds of eliminations. In both rounds I spun the tire a bunch on the launch. I used a dial-in of 10.35 and in round 1 all I could manage was a 10.70. Lots of tire spin, but I was lucky because my opponent red lit. Round 2 was a little better, I ran a 10.5 on the 10.35 dial-in. Again I got lucky when my opponent broke out. Those wins put me on the 16-bike ladder and into the afternoon program. The ladder put me up against a real tough competitior, so I knew I would have to be almost perfect to win. I dialed a 10.35 and ran a 10.331. A break out loss by .019 seconds. I really lost it on reaction time since my opponent's was much better. Overall I think we had a pretty successful event. We worked through some issues on the Pro Gas bike and I think we have them sorted out for the next event. In ET, I did ok and am getting more comfortable each round.
